Offering a wealth of information on all aspects of gardening, from choosing the right plants to dealing with pests and diseases.
Gardening is a great way to stay active and get some fresh air. Tending to plants can be very therapeutic.
Meetings from 2024 onwards will be held on the first Wednesday of the month, February to May and September to December at Ribblesdale Wanderers Cricket and Bowling Club, Church Meadow, Brownlow Street, Clitheroe, BB7 1HQ starting at 7.30pm.
Meetings finish with tea/coffee and biscuits and time to catch up with people and maybe purchase plants from the visiting speaker. In the Summer, there are organised visits and social activities. There is also a Winter social event or meal. You are very welcome to join at one of our meetings or at the Sales Hut which is open most Sunday mornings in the season.
We are affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society; for further information on the benefits see the Affiliated Societies Information Pack or HERE. There are other horticultural societies affiliated to us: Sabden Horticultural Society & West Bradford Gardening Club. Their members are free to use our sales hut and, if they wish, share in our activities.
Meetings and talks of horticultural interest are held at Ribblesdale Wanderers Cricket and Bowling Club, Church Meadow, Brownlow Street, BB7 1HQ, Clitheroe on Wednesdays starting at 7.30 p.m.
In the winter there is either a dinner or social evening.
In the summer we also organise trips to places of horticultural interest. In 2024 there was a Club Outing to RHS Bridgewater.
The Sales Hut opens on Sunday mornings in the season (March to September) and is a very busy place. In 2025 we had a very popular special one day February Sunday opening to sell seed potatoes and onion sets.
The good news is that the seed potatoes and onion sets have been delivered this week and so we will be opening the hut for one day on February 1st 10-12 for the sale of potatoes, onions and seeds.
Potato varieties this year are
First earlies: Lady Christl & Orla (Orla can also be treated as 2nd early & maincrop)
Second earlies: Charlotte & Kestrel
Maincrop: Sarpo Mira
Onions and shallots
Rumba (yellow onion) & Red Karmen (a red onion!)
Yellow Moon (yellow shallot) & Biztro (red shallot)
As in previous years please will you bring your own bags or containers for potatoes & onions so that we can keep our use of plastic to a minimum.
